DOUG HOFFMAN TOPS MODIFIED
STOCK CAR FEATURE RACE AT
EAST WINDSOR SPEEDWAY FRIDAY
EAST WINDSOR, N.J. ~ Dirt track Modified stock car driving star Doug Hoffman of Allentown, Pa. raced to his fourth main event win of the season at the East
Windsor Speedway Friday. The victory, his career 109th at the half-mile clay oval, helped Hoffman stay in the top-five in the Modified point standings where
he is seeking to defend his 2001 speedway driving title.
Edison's Donny Radd was another star of this race as he jumped to the lead early
and gave the fifth place starting Hoffman a real fight for first. After several attempts at a lap six restart, Hoffman finally drove into the lead while Radd
held strong for second.
Hoffman went unchallenged the rest of the way, but the valiant Radd gave his fans plenty to cheer about as he fought off repeated attacks by Frenchtown's
Billy Pauch to nail down a strong second place finish. Kenny Brightbill of Sinking Spring, Pa., the current Modified point leader, was fourth behind
Pauch, while Wade Hendrickson of Lawrenceville was fifth.
Stan Janiszewski of Ewing Township, a four-time Late Model champion at the speedway, proved that he feels right at home in a Sportsman car as he raced to
victory in the division's 20-lap companion main event. Janiszewski, who started seventh, battled Jimmy Weiss of Manalapan for the top spot early in the contest
before Weiss left the track with mechanical woes under caution.
Janiszewski then raced home the winner, while John Scheideler of Cream Ridge was
an impressive second. Englishtown's John Romano, Jr., Lowell Snyder of Upper Black Eddy, Pa. and Rick Holsten of Dayton were third through fifth.
Rob Ormsbee of Wall started 17th and arrived at the head of the class with just four circuits to spare to win his third 15-lap Street Stock feature race of the
season. Early leader Pat Freiberger of Allentown, who wrestled with Ormsbee for the lead, finished second, with Carol Whitehouse and Rocco Infante, both of
Hamilton, finishing third and fourth. Frank Dorry, Jr. of Ringoes was fifth.
Friday night racing continues weekly at the East Windsor Speedway with the first
green flag waving at 7:30 p.m. This Friday evening, August 30, the Modifieds battle in the "Fan Favorite" Twin 20-lap main events, with the Sportsman cars
racing 20-laps and the Street Stocks competing in a 15-lapper. Qualifying heat races are planned for each division.
